From his best friend Donna.....
Mister Cowboy Chant, aka "Tippy," is contestant #220, a 13 year-old, black, registered quarter horsegelding. Tippy is a true gentleman! I love his kind disposition, his desire to please and willingness to learn, his athletic ability, beauty and intelligence, but most of all I love his huge heart. He gives so much in everything he does. We're partners...we trust each other, take care of each other and have fun together. Tippy is a once-in-a-lifetime horse and companion. I dearly LOVE this horse!
Tippy became a part of our family in the Fall of 2008. He was trained and shown as a reiner by Ben Balow, Prescott, AZ. It was love at first ride, and then when Tippy followed me to the gate as I left and put his head on my shoulder, my heart melted. We were meant to be together.
We began competing in NVRHA (National Versatility Ranch Horse Association) events in the Spring of2009, when, in addition to reining, he excelled in cutting, working ranch horse, ranch riding, trail andconformation. We were thrilled to earn the title of Reserve National Champion in 2009 and 2010.
In November 2010, I was introduced to ACTHA through friends. In my search for an activity my husband and I could enjoy together, we participated in our first ride in December 2010. Shortly thereafter,ACTHA announced auditions in April 2011 for “America’s Favorite Trail Horse.” I had just turned 65and thought...what a great birthday present and a fun way to share Tippy with horse lovers across the country. As a three-time ovarian cancer survivor, I also saw AFTH as an opportunity to be an inspiration to others to live every day as a gift and pursue your dreams.
Tippy and I also volunteer for the Black Stallion Literacy Program, introducing children to the joy of reading through the magic of horses. Tippy is known as "Big Black" and loves the attention from the kids.
Having owned, bred and shown horses most of my life...Tippy is one in a million! I have never loved and connected with a horse as much as I have with him. He has a charming personality, curious, smart and social, but also like an old soul. He has endeared himself to everyone who meets him. To me, he's as close to perfect as a horse can be and I feel blessed to have him in my life. When I first heard about AFTH, my immediate thought was, no horse deserves this more than Tippy.
Tippy and I ask for your vote for the title of “America’s Favorite Trail Horse!”
